Which Metrics Matter for Gaming

The most useful comparison is performance-per-dollar. Find the gaming benchmark score difference between two CPUs, then calculate what percentage more or less expensive the faster option is. If CPU A is 8% faster in gaming but 25% more expensive, CPU B is better value unless you specifically need that 8% margin.

Compare CPUs at the same price point, not the same model tier. A two-generation-old flagship may cost less than a current-generation mid-range chip — compare actual cost, not model names.

If you do gaming AND content creation, video editing, or streaming, multi-core performance matters more. In this case, use a weighted comparison: gaming benchmark at your resolution (70% weight), multi-threaded score (30% weight). This gives you a more realistic picture for a mixed-use machine.
